“Those who drink beer, will think beer.” – Washington Irving

Hi there, readers!

Recently, I participated in a DC Fray wine “walk” that took me to several locations that I think would value from your business, even if the event of a wine walk was pointless.

Each of these locations were miles apart, in a massive city (not a walk, at all. More like an uber event) and the lines at each location was a minimum 10 minute wait. Never to fear, readers! We powered through to 4 locations and it gave me an idea: visit these places for food and drinks!! We started at Kingfisher, in the Shaw area, and though it was packed, I could tell it was a good low-key bar. The bartenders were personable and I would totally return. Mind you, it’s a sketchy staircase entrance in a not-so-personable location of DC. But go, please! This place is a good, modern speakeasy that’ll make you a regular.

After getting our map/ticket and tossware plastic “glass”, we meandered to the end of the line to Tyber Creek. Lots of people, but if you made a reservation and returned, you would be a happy drinker. A large variety of wine on tap (which was strange, since I’ve moved from California an only beer comes on a tap) and an ambiance that screams millennial. Rustic and small, the food options looked great, and the service was obviously “struggling DC resident” but I feel you won’t regret it. Try hitting it up for brunch, maybe? If its not your scene (which I totally understand, bacause why tip when I have to yell my order?), go across the street to the Red Hen. It’s a coveted DC foodie location, and it holds up to its name.

After suffering heat stroke and a large crowd, we made our way back to La Jambe. It sounds French, but it’s another hipster stop in DC. Small and a little crowded, they have a great wine selection, good cocktails, and a menu worth reading. The bathroom is a coveted location here, since it was so crowded, but aside from the patrons’ bowel and kidney function, it’s a place to stop in Shaw. Unique and small, you should totally hit it up.

After a hiatus at the specialty shop of PetSmart (called Unleashed) we connected with a friend from the cornhole tournament and then we made our way to Anthology. (Bit of a pit stop at station house since DC Fray is unorganized and didn’t tell the crowd where the next popup location was). After we entered, the building, the manager told us off for blocking the door, (he was at his wits end, probably since he’s had to deal with tipsy patrons since 230 PM) and we complied with his schpeal of door management, we had generous pours of 6 wines. Sadly, Anthology is an apartment complex for the hip scene of H street, but never fear! Just attend one of the plethora of bars/restaurants on H street, and you shall enjoy yourself.

After properly receiving a buzz at Anthology (from the complete shitshow of a wine walk hosted by DC Fray), we made our way .25 miles down H street to Granville Moore’s, a Belgian beer bar. Known for their oysters, this location has great beer and a plethora of food to suit the pickiest eater. Unique and a solid atmosphere, GO HERE. I’ve decided this is a go-to for me when in DC. The bartenders are great, the atmosphere boasts Belgium, and the food and beer are a solid selection.

Until next time, readers!
