Dear Readers,
I have never been a wordy, articulate person and I dread reading a blog where the premise is always “but first, let me tell you about blah, blah, blah…” so I tend to jump right in on here. So here we go!
Have you wandered the Old Town Alexandria Waterfront? At the end of the park, there sits the 1970s replica of an 18th century Continental Naval Vessel captained by John Paul Jones.

Well, a few weeks ago, I was going to set sail for a hard cider tasting by Lost Boy Cider, and then a thunderstorm hit and we were rescheduled.
How cool would that be?! PIRATE SHIPS AND LOST BOYS! It was gonna be epic, and on the Providence, you get to assist crew with lines! My 8 year old self was jealous… until the rain. So much rain…

Well, as mentioned previously, this sale was rescheduled. So I set off for a 2 hour sunset cruise aboard this beauty! Side note, Tall Ship Providence was used in the filming of Pirates of the Carribean: Fead Man’s Chest! 😱

The route is relatively short – takeoff down the Potomac toward the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, turn around, head north for 45 minutes toward the city, head back. But along that relatively short loop is the Naval Research Laboratory, the DC water plant, old Town Alexandria Waterfront, and an unobstructed view of the Washington and Jefferson Monuments from the water.

Only the tasting was included in the ticket fee, but Tall Ship Providence doesn’t disappoint with the cash bar fully stocked! I felt obligated to drink all the beers from the brewery though… 🤭

The original Sloop Providence was the first commissioned ship in the Continental Navy in 1775 as a merchant ship and later, commandeered more than 40 prized ships for the Continental Navy. She was burned in 1779 after the British forces cap

It’s really a fun time, even if you’re only there for the history tour and the sunset sail without the alcohol. It’s not THE most fun, but it’s still worth the ticket price.
Well, that’s all for now Readers. Until next time!
Aargh, mate-y!
