“The North never disappoints” – Unknown
Hello Readers! I know, I’m inactive all the time.
But! Let me tell you about my trip to Norway in Feb 2025.
It started off with a 7 hour flight to Munich, an hour layover, and 40 minutes to Oslo. Surprisingly, it wasn’t that bad. I was still disappointed I never got that 747 flight to Frankfurt in 2023, so any Lufthansa flight that isn’t the Queen of the Skies is disappointing.
After landing in Oslo, it was all public transportation. Unlike Japan, or Italy, or Iceland where I drove the whole time, I didn’t want to in Oslo. The train is half the time and only $7 from the airport.

After getting to the City Center, everything was within walking distance, or a metro ride away. Since it was February, the coldest month of winter, everything was gray and covered in snow. Unfortunately, I tore my hamstring on Jan 1 and walking, sitting, stairs, and standing were difficult.

Since we only had a few days in Oslo, we saw a bunch of things that were Oslo Only – like the FTheres ram Museum, the Ski Jump, the fjord bay, and a couple of local museums. All of Norway is HUGE with so many other things to see, so it’s still on the travel list, just not Oslo.
Like Reykjavik, it’s a modern northern city with a modern twist on all the historic significance of the country.

Things I regret not booking early: the saunas in the bay. You can rent a private sauna pontoon that you can take out into the fjord bay for a few hours and take a swim in the frigid waters.

We didn’t book a tour of the palace, because the royal family was in town, but we did walk around the whole grounds, and our hotel was across the street.
The thing about European hotels is the breakfast is included and always amazing. I tried Norwegian brown cheese and a lot of local lox 🤤
It was a short trip, so we saw a lot, but not enough. Here’s the photo dump!

The Fram museum is of great historical significance for Norwegian explorers. It’s been to Antarctica and the North Pole!

We also went to the Ski Jump and Ski Museum up the mountain from Oslo, overlooking the city. Since it was snowy, we didn’t see much, but the whole jump and museum are a site to see.

During World War II, Norway was part of the German Occupation, similar to that of France, but in the North. The Resistance Norway had during this time is in a museum in the old Fort, and well laid out.

There’s so many trolls in Norway – every museum has a children’s section centered around them. And always so fantastic – I’m disappointed as an adult that it’s for children under 12!
There’s a food hall in Oslo, opposite the bay toward the old city, that is exactly what I wanted to see in Oslo. The food was phenomenal, the beer was 🤌, and the layout was fantastic.

What you CANNOT miss is the Vikings. There’s the Norwegian History Museum, but also the Viking Museum – who have done a great job merging VR and AI with smaller artifacts displays.

It doesn’t sound like much, but the Bible Museum was interesting. They have bibles dating to the 14th century!

We packed in a lot for 3 days in the city, until next time nerds!
